The Truth about 'Black Henna'.

A Thank You to the Capitol Height's Masjid for their help and support of "Amina Henna Designs". I meet some very beautiful Sister's during the "Eid' celebration this year and enjoyed doing their henna. One note to all you henna lovers: I want to set the record straight and inform everyone there is no such thing as 'black henna'. Please note most people who use anything saying it's black henna are using a hair dye which comes in a powder form and you add water to activate it. It contains a chemical called 'PPD', which can cause a very harmful allergic reaction.PLEASE READ: http://www.vashonorganics.com/education_center/consumer-alert-black-henna-tattoos-can-cause-serious-skin-reactions/
I make my own henna cones which contain only essential oils and lemon juice. So please think twice about getting the black hair dye applied to your skin. Henna comes in tones of orange-burgundy to a deep raisin brown but never never black.
I hope to continue to bring you my henna tattoo designs. I will be traveling soon and will also post some free henna designs.
Peace and One Love

This summer has really been so much fun doing Mehndi in Washington, DC and Maryland. I had no idea so many women were into temporary tattoo body art.
the beautiful henna feet and hand designs along with small pretty shoulder and back Mehndi designs are very popular. I am sure because of our life style here in America, the more simple elegant designs work well.

Beautiful Mehandi Design History

I have been asked to share information about what I know about the art of Henna application to the body which is called "Mehndi". Its is believed that once you have your Mehndi art done you will be safe from The Evil Eye, Black Magic, harmful Genies, and a host of other dangerous supernatural forces. The art of applying Henna (Mehndi) dates back at least 5,000 years. It originated in Egypt and the Middle East, and was spread to India by the Muslims. The most traditional use of Mehandi was during special occasions and celebrations; weddings, births, deaths, even first menstruations. At these life events, women were thought to be most vulnerable to evil spirits and the application of Henna was a form of protection for them. Individual designs have specific meanings; a few of which are luck, health, fertility, sun, moon, etc. The Art of Mehndi has now gainied popularity in the United States, with celebrities such as Rihana, Madonna, Demi Moore, and The Artist Occasionally Known as Prince displaying their Henna tattoos. The cost of a Mehndi tattoo starts around $13.00 to $35.00 for more detailed larger designs. The process is quite fun and lasts 2 to 4 weeks depending your personal chemistry and what types of soap is used to wash the area. Generally the inside of hands and the feet stain darker.
